Sponsorship Opportunity Descriptions Engineers Week BanquetThe Engineers Week Banquet is WVS-SWE's biggest event of the year with typically over 150 people in attendance. See below for specific portions that your company can sponsor are: 1. Collegiate student ticket sponsorship (~$600, ~$30/ticket). One focus of the banquet is to celebrate the contributions of engineers to society. In addition, the banquet also provide professionals in the Willamette Valley a chance to network with their colleagues. Since first holding the banquet, friends and industrial sponsors have provided students from the College of Engineering at Oregon State University the opportunity to join in this celebration. Students from nearly all disciplines are able to attend the banquet, talk with working engineers, and network with potential employers. This experience is invaluable for students and is now an event that students look forward to participating in. Sponsors are recognized during the banquet, on the banquet program, as well as identified specifically to the students. 2. Tickets for scholarship and essay contest winners (~$630, ~$30/ticket) - winner + 2 guests each WVS SWE has both an essay contest for middle school students and a scholarship program for women from the Willamette Valley who have chosen to study engineering in college. Winners of the essay contest and scholarship winners, along with their parents, are invited to attend the banquet. Donations for these tickets will allow these students and their parents to attend the banquet where their accomplishments will be announced and shared. 3. Banquet programs & nametags ($150) Donations for this item will be used to print programs for the evening as well as print nametags to facilitate networking. Sponsors will be recognized both on the printed program as well as during the banquet. 4. Provide "door prizes" for student raffle Over the years, more and more students choose to attend the banquet, largely as a result of the strong sponsorship we have received from local industry. In the last couple of years, companies have provided “door prizes (cameras, printers, etc.). All students in attendance are allowed to place their name “in the hat” for this drawing. Typically all students (middle school, high school, and college) in attendance are allowed to participate. Sponsors can set any criteria they feel is appropriate for a raffle. 5. Room rental ($825) The banquet has been held in various rooms in the CH2M Hill Alumni Center on the Oregon State University Campus. Since Corvallis is located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, this location makes the banquet accessible to professionals from throughout the valley. In addition, the location facilitates the attendance of OSU engineering students. The facilities are excellent and allow for a stimulating evening for engineering professionals throughout the valley. Saturday Academy through Oregon State University Every year our section does at least one half-day event to engage middle school students in engineering. The program is offered on a Corvallis School District in-service day (week day) and is organized through the Saturday Academy program. Typically the event includes hands-on activities, a tour, and lunch.
Engineering DVD Donation Program Inspirational DVD to get students interested in engineering presented at a school or other event, you can view the DVD here: http://engineeringedu.com/store/dvd.html DVD Description (From the Back Cover): Yes, some people have always known that they wanted to be an engineer. But not everyone knows that engineers design everything. Not everyone knows that an engineering degree can help you follow your dreams. Parents and guidance counselors may not even know all the things that an engineer can do. This DVD provides insight into the world of engineering for anyone who wants to be inspired but doesn't know how to start, have time to start, or doesn't want to sift through the maze of engineering career web sites and literature. Engineers Can Do Anything! is designed to enable everyone to uncover the rewards of an engineering career. Girl Scouts WorkshopsEach year, WVS-SWE hosts 2 Girl Scout workshops. Engineering 101 consists of hands-on activities designed to introduce Brownie or Daisy Girl Scouts to the exciting world of engineering. For the Bridge Design workshop, each team of Juniors works with a mentor to design, purchase supplies, build, and test a bridge. Engineering 101 - This event consists of hands-on activities designed to introduce Brownie Girl Scouts (grades 1-3) to the exciting world of engineering. Girls learn about mechanical, chemical, electrical, structural engineering and materials science through fun experiments led by SWE professional and collegiate members. Bridge Design - This event for Junior Girl Scouts (grades 4-6) has teams of girls working with a SWE mentor to design, purchase supplies, build and test a bridge to specifications for height, width and strength. Girls learn about different bridge structures from a professional engineer and then apply their knowledge and creativity to build the bridge. Scholarships Coming Soon....Each year, 6th, 7th and 8th graders from around the Willamette Valley are invited to submit a 500 word essay about an inspirational woman in science. Students who enter benefit by becoming exposed to all sorts of women who have excelled in fields such as biology, computer science, civil engineering, physics, and aeronautical engineering. One winning essay is selected from each grade. Winning students are invited to attend the Annual SWE Banquet where they are awarded with a $50 cash prize along with a certificate of recognition. Certificate of Merit Each year, we ask local area high schools to nominate 3 junior/senior female students who exhibit excellence in math and science. The awards are intended to not only recognize these women, but to encourage and inspire them to pursue engineering and science for future academic endeavors and/or careers. The awards are presented by SWE members at high school awards ceremonies around the Willamette Valley. Professional Development is comprised primarily of the Programs, Publicity, Engineering Banquet, and the Newsletter committees. The programs committee puts on the bulk of our events for members and tries to have one event per month or so. Past events include: a showing of the Nova presentation getting to Absolute Zero including a lecture by the professor responsible, hikes around the area, monthly meetings for members to mingle, tours of local technical companies and speakers on professional development topics. Our programs committee also plans at least one joint meeting per year with the OSU SWE chapter to support them and facilitate mentoring of younger engineers. In addition, the professional development programs cover activities to keep the Willamette Chapter of SWE running such as membership information and publicity. SWE National Conference The SWE National Conference is the annual gathering for the Society of Women Engineers. The conference offers professional development classes, technical and management seminars, SWE specific workshops, a large career fair, educational tours, banquets, and awards ceremonies for professional and collegiate members. In addition, Society members meet to discuss and vote on current issues. There are meetings for regions and for the Council of Representatives, which is the voting body of the Society.
